20111210 Historic Rome

Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. - Psalm 32:1-2

SAT - Today we continued our "Angels and Demon" tour in Rome. We started our historic tour of Rome at the Colosseum (€12 per pax). This is one of the 7 Wonders of the World (Medieval World) and the first 7 Wonders of the World we visited in this trip. This was the arena where gladiators fought for their lives, while entertaining the Roman Emperors.

Also shown in the movie Eat Pray Love, featuring Rome and Tuscany (although a large part was in filmed in Bali).

Gladiators were prisoners, slaves or criminals who were supposedly sentenced to death. When ordered, they would fight with Roman soldiers, animals, or with themselves for entertainment. Losers lost their lives, winners got to remain alive until their next fight. Cruel! Scary! Interior views of Colosseum from 4 directions. It was a wonderful visit to this Medievial 7 Wonders of the World.
Next to the Colosseum were the famous Roman Forum, the arch, and the ruins with Vittorio Emmanuelle II at the background,

and the Palatine Hill.
We had a long walk from Colosseum to Chinatown at Piazza Vittorio Emanuelle II, only to be disappointed by the size of it and the small number of chinese restaurants there. We had lunch at Ristorante Cinese Giardino Dell Eden ... food so-so. Then, we spent the rest of the afternoon at Via del Corso shopping area and enjoyed gelato and beer and the Christmas ambience there.

We had dinner at a chinese restaurant at the Trevi Fountain. The food and ambience was good.

Rome was truly remarkable and educational, and we were blessed to be able to come up close and personal at these visit sites that we read about in the Bible.
